Buy Local This Holiday Season

How to Play:
• Visit as many Participating Businesses on the Scavenger Hunt card as possible; there are 58 total. Do not visit Scavenger Hunt Sponsors or TCL Sponsors.
• Click here for Addresses of participating businesses.
• Get your playing card marked (stamp, sticker or initials) next to each business name when you visit that business. No purchases are necessary.
• Bring your card to our Holiday Gala at 20 North Gallery, 18 North St. Clair, on Saturday, Dec 5 from 6-10pm (Admission to Gala is FREE with a participating Scavenger Hunt Card)
• For every 5 businesses you visit and receive valid marks on your Hunt Card, you will receive one raffle ticket at the door of the Gala. It is possible to receive up to 12 raffle tickets.
• Raffle tickets will be drawn for prizes at the Gala and you MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!
• HAVE FUN!

• Have a competition with a friend to see who can visit more businesses.
• Come to the Holiday Gala on Dec. 5 for music, drinks, food and prizes!

LUCAS COUNTY PROCLAIMS “BUY LOCAL FIRST” WEEK BEFORE START OF HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON

Just in time for the start of the holiday shopping season, Lucas County Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak will announce the launch of a new campaign encouraging residents to “buy local first.”

“Local businesses play an integral role in shaping our community and strengthening our economy,” said Commissioner Wozniak. “After a good turkey dinner, we want every Lucas County resident to get out there, shop, and buy local first.”

Commissioner Wozniak, along with members of Toledo Choose Local, will share details of the week long effort to promote local businesses on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Downtown Latte.

Soon, Commissioner Wozniak will introduce a Proclamation officially declaring November 24-December 1 ” Buy Local First” week.

Toledo Choose Local window decals, posters, advertisements and other promotional items will help shoppers identify local, independently-owned businesses to patronize. During the week, Toledo Choose Local participating member businesses will host a scavenger hunt, encouraging shoppers to purchase gifts at area businesses. Scavenger hunt winners will then receive a prize from a local business and also have a chance to enter a raffle to win one of three grand prizes.

1. A locally owned and independent business is one where the owner/community member has full autonomy and local decision-making authority with respect to his or her business practices.
2. The business owners, totaling greater than 50% of the business ownership, live in our local region.
3. The business is registered in Ohio or Michigan, with no corporate or national headquarters outside our region.
4. The business can make independent decisions regarding the name and look of the business, as well as all business purchasing, practices and distribution.
5. The business pays all its own rent, marketing expenses, and other expenses (without assistance from a corporate headquarters).

Businesses that do not meet these criteria but wish to be a member of Toledo Choose Local may join as a Supporting Business, or become a Sponsor.
